Amma's Visit to Malaysia Year 2008

Amma’s Malaysian children once again worked together and had their wishes fulfilled when Amma held Her programmes from March 31 – April 1, 2008 at the Mines International Exhibition Convention Centre (MIECC), Selangor. With wide circulation of publicity materials, the Organising Committee expected a large turnout from members of the public.

Once again, eager and anxious children of Amma queued from the wee hours of the morning on March 31 although the token distribution was only to commence from 5.00 pm. For the convenience of the queuing members, refreshments were made available within a fully air-conditioned environment together with the much appreciated washroom facilities.

Streams of devotees made their way to the darshan hall around 5.00 pm and tokens were distributed to them while they were seated in the darshan hall. The crowd stood up and hurried to the center of the hall where the entrance is located when Amma’s arrival was announced via the large screens that were suspended at various locations within the hall. Amma was garlanded and greeted by a trio of ladies who performed a cultural dance. As Amma made her way to the hall, throngs of hands reached out to try to touch Her, while children aged from 6 – 12 carrying trays with lights, further welcomed Amma with fresh rose petals. Needless to say, the warmth of the Malaysian hearts could be felt with fervour throughout the hall at this point.

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee gave a speech to welcome Amma on behalf of Amma’s Malaysian children and thanked Her for Her visit. He also outlined the various activities that were carried out by the Amriteswari Society of Malaysia.

After an uplifting discourse and a mesmerizing heart-felt full hour of divine bhajans, the eagerly awaited darshan commenced at 9:30 pm. This year, with Amma’s grace, the coordination during the entire darshan session including the provision of refreshments for the devotees, worked flawlessly. A nap area was made available for the devotees’ and their families’ use which enabled most of the crowd to be comfortably accommodated within the darshan hall while waiting for their respective moment when they would meet Amma and receive Her darshan.

Devotees with special needs were also looked after during the 2 days event. A team of dedicated doctors and volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure that these devotees had an enjoyable and memorable time.

With a total of over 35,000 people having received their darshan during the 2 day programme and with each darshan day only ending around mid morning of the following day, Amma’s expansive love and compassion certainly reached out to many of Her Malaysian children. Towards the end of the programme, Amma expressed Her gratitude to all who had volunteered their time, effort and contributions towards the visit.

Amma sang the bhajan “Mata Rani” at the end of the final day‘s programme as She was making Her way to the hall’s exit.. Everyone rapturously sang along with Amma until She finally left the darshan hall. With Her departure, Amma ‘s visit to Malaysia came to an end with Her Malaysian children looking forward longingly to Her next visit.
